“We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”
~ William Shakespeare

We all have a story.  Individuals and families have a story; communities, and organizations also have a story. Often these stories live unexplored and untold.Changing Life Stories Theater for Change

The unique form and deep truth of each ‘real’ story is arrived at through creative and courageous exploration.  Every community and individual’s creative process is filled with hope, grief, yearning, frustration, idealism, love—contradictory emotions, wild and tumultuous energy.  Changing Life Stories© provides a vehicle for individuals, communities and organizations to identify challenges and exchange ideas for problem-solving.

In this process, we work with images, emotions and memories to recover, discover, and uncover personal, social and community stories.  We compose as we move and explore,  delving into memory, observations, opinions, text, characters and power relationships in a group effort to uncover and express authentic stories.  Problems, solutions, challenges, and opportunities  are  harvested from within the group.

Therapeutic Acting

Within this experiential creative learning process, we draw upon a variety of disciplines including the work and philosophy of the revolutionary Brazilian director Augusto Boal and educator Paulo Freire—primarily, that all group members are learners and participants in the dialogue and the action of their own, their group, their community’s story.  The principal goal of Changing Life Stories© is to assist individuals, groups and community organizations to explore and transform relationships, to self and others.
